Jackie's Personal PN Story Line
I have had fibromyalgia most of my life. The symptoms come and go and I basically have learned to live with it.
I take Elavil 10 mg at night for restorative sleep. Then about 5 years ago I was put on Zocor a statin cholesteral
drug. About a year afterwards I developed severe diarrea and vomiting. Then my feet became very sensitive. Then the
nerves in my feet really started to burn. I also developed a tumor on the nerve in my left foot. I was sent from
one neurologists to another. I also developed vasculitis.
Then I went to Mayos. They ruled out all the big nerve
diseases. Then I got shingles. I went to a dermatologist and they suggested I go off of all my medications,
including the zocor. Within 2 weeks I felt like a new person. Before that I had progressed to severe fatigue,
and my left side of my body was weak like I had had a stroke. I was dizzy and falling.
After I was off the zocor
I got my energy back and the unsteady gait and muscle problems improved but I was left with the damaged nerves
in my feet. I take neurontin for the pain..300 mg 3 times a day. I have just recently started taking benfotiamine.
I walk about a mile a day on good days,,,,bad, around the block.
I also have a sugar intolerance. Haven't developed
diabetes yet but could as it is in our family. I feel lucky that my pn isn't as bad as some but to be the 1 in 10,000
people that develops this because of statins don't make me feel so lucky.
